Saint-Gobain Cristaleria has invested EUR 3.5 million in the total renovation of the furnace for patterned glass at its plant in Renedo de Pilagos (Cantabria, north west Spain), the only installation of its kind operated by Saint-Gobain in Spain. According to the company, the investment will enable it to optimize production of its range of patterned glass. The renovation will also result in a significant increase in quality, “a fundamental factor given the targeting of the product at the furniture and interior design sectors which are very sophisticated markets in terms of quality” the company noted. Traditionally used in applications such as bathroom windows and interior doors, Saint-Gobain says patterned glass is today being used in ways which were unthinkable in the past, such as work surfaces, shower cubicles, designer kitchen furniture, tables, counters and partitions. The new furnace at Renedo is said to be one of the most cost effective installations in the group.
