22 April 1999: Shares in Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel jumped more than 7.5% on recently, after the company released first-quarter sales figures and said it expected improved performance for the rest of 1999. Glaverbel stock was up 7.33% at 104.00 Euros with 2,478 shares traded after earlier reaching a high of 104.80 Euros. Glaverbel said first-quarter sales rose 34 percent to about 357 million Euros, and set an increased net dividend of 2.45 Euros for 1998. Glaverbel said glass prices and sales volumes had been depressed in the first two months of 1999, partly as a result of rising imports from Asia, but the situation had picked up in March.
