12 March 1998: A total of 283,208 tonnes of waste glass were reportedly collected for recycling in Switzerland in 1997, compared with the previous year“s figure of 258,813 tonnes. The volume of waste glass recycled was thus equivalent to a record 91.2% of glass consumption last year, an increase of 1.9 percentage points on the previous year“s ratio. This represented 39.9 kilograms of waste glass per head of the population. Buelach-based Vetrorecycling AG (Vetro Recycling), a subsidiary of the Vetropack group, accounted for 112,330 tonnes or approximately 40% of overall waste glass collection.
