19 February 1998: Austrian refractory materials maker Radex-Heraklith announced a 31% increase in preliminary 1997 pre-tax profits to Sch 884 million on a 1.75% increase in net sales. The company reported that net sales rose, especially in the steel segment in western Europe, as well as in the non-ferrous metals sector. Net sales rose to Sch 21.37 billion from 21.01 billion in 1996 and group operating profit was up 22% at Sch .114 billion. Earnings per share rose 34% to Sch 49. Analysts had forecast pre-tax profits of between Sch 836 million and 868 million.
