According to FEVE, with overall waste reduction targets, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) has one big winner: plastics.
The European Commission’s impact assessment with overall targets illustrates the potential for unintended consequences. While all other materials are projected to generate less packaging waste by 2030, plastic waste will rise by 17.4 percent.
Is this really the vision of waste reduction European policy-makers had in mind? To ensure fair packaging waste reduction by all materials, the PPWR needs to set targets by material.
