Art Of Glass prize won by Jakub Pollág

The third edition of the RIEDEL AWARD 2016 ceremony – the international prize dedicated to the art of glass manufacturing which has grown from the collaboration between Riedel Crystal and Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (Venetian Institute of Science, Literature and Arts) – took place on September 26th, at Palazzo Franchetti, Istituto Veneto’s headquarters.

The competition is included in the context of the Glass in Venice award, a project conceived by Istituto Veneto with the Venetian Civic Museum foundation to value the glass art heritage linked to the master glass craftsmen from Murano.
The Riedel prize is addressed to young artists and designers (under 30) from all over the world who submit a design project – this year over 70 received – realized through one or more techniques used in glass manufacturing to a commission of experts and professionals of the glass field. This year, the judging committee was composed of Livia Peraldo Matton (Director of Elle Decor Italia, Riedel Award 2016 Media Partner), Sandro Franchini (Director of Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti), Chiara Squarcina (Manager of Murano Museum of Glass), Stefanie Kubanek (German designer tedesca at KubanekDesign+) and chaired by Georg J. Riedel, the 10th generation representative from Riedel Crystal.
The Riedel Award 2016 was awarded to the young Slovakian designer Jakub Pollág, whose work Bubbles Tableware “represents a piece of home furniture which well fits in an original interior design project, suitable for a high-level industrial production and integration in commercial market”, stated Riedel. In fact, the winning concept will receive a royalty agreement for products put into production, and, Riedel will award 10,000 euros to the selected best entry.
Second and third places were assigned to the Italian Elisa Bergmann – for her  work Bergmann Wasser – and Polish designer Anna Wójcik, for her glasswork Piao.
The Glass In Venice award was also appointed during the ceremony: Bruno Amadi was awarded for his particular links with the tradition and production techniques typical of Murano, but also the Argentinian artist Silvia Levenson.
The works of the all award-winning artists will be exhibited in the atrium of the Palazzo Loredan, Istituto Veneto, from September 26th to October 26th, Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00, free admission.
