Fabrice Rivet, Technical Director at FEVE – the European Container Glass Federation – joined the Packaging Waste & Sustainability Forum 2025, during which he outlined the key barriers to decarbonising the glass packaging industry from the lack of affordable and accessible low-carbon energy sources and infrastructure to the high energy costs for electricity.
Fabrice emphasised the role of regulatory incentives in accelerating the transition to net zero packaging and called for a re-evaluation of life cycle assessment (LCA), pointing out that the current framework does not cover all environmental and health aspects of packaging.
As the glass packaging industry works towards net zero by 2050, the right enabling conditions are key to support this transition.
