SageGlass®, the world’s smartest electrochromic glass, and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community broke ground on Mystic Lake Center, a 70,000-square-foot meeting facility and new 180-room hotel tower attached to the iconic Mystic Lake Casino Hotel.
SageGlass will install 13,000 square feet of dynamic glass on the entire western façade of the lavish Mystic Lake Center, allowing visitors to experience the biophilic effects of nature and natural daylight. The expansion will be open to guests by the end of 2017.
Mystic Lake Center’s project vision for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community was to create a sophisticated facility with advanced technologies throughout all of its meeting spaces. SageGlass was chosen for its state-of-the-art electrochromic technology that controls sunlight to optimize daylight, outdoor views and comfort while preventing glare and heat gain without the need for blinds or solar controls.
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community lives in rhythm with nature and recognizes its restorative healing powers. As such, maintaining a view and connection to the beautiful views of The Meadows, a scenic golf course surrounded by waterfalls, native plants and statuary, as well as views of the tribal wetlands, was of utmost importance when designing the façade. Installing SageGlass will allow resort visitors to stay connected to nature and experience the biophilic benefits of the outdoors, which include stress reduction, enhanced clarity of thought and an improved sense of well-being.
“It was important to honor the heritage and integrate the values of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community within the contemporary design of this project,” said Bryan Hamlin, chief design officer and partner at WORTHGROUP Architects & Designers. “SageGlass met all of the Community’s requirements with its ability to provide unobstructed views of the wetlands and surrounding landscape while simultaneously bringing advanced building technology that is in-line with the fluidity and flexibility of this facility’s meeting and event spaces. Beyond superior functionality, SageGlass also met the Community’s form requirements with its elegant aesthetics.”
Visitors who utilize the project’s conference rooms for workplace meetings will enjoy unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape and access to natural daylight, which, according to Saint-Gobain and SageGlass’ recent national survey, significantly reduces stress levels.
“Our company culture is very much aligned with the goal and vision for this resort because of our shared appreciation of nature and natural daylighting,” said Alan McLenaghan, CEO of SageGlass. “We have seen the positive impact that access to natural daylighting and views of nature can have on building occupants, and we believe our dynamic glass will allow Mystic Lake Center’s guests to experience a holistic sense of well-being and enhance their experience in the facility.”
Mystic Lake Center will also serve as a major economic catalyst and is expected to create 400 total construction jobs and approximately 100 permanent jobs in the region. SageGlass will complete this project in partnership with WORTHGROUP Architects & Designers.
