Pilkington K Glass™ S reached new milestone

NSG Group has announced that its new jumbo off-line coater at the Pilkington plant in Cowley Hill has produced over two and a half million square metres, reaching a new milestone. The coater enables ultra-thin special coatings to be applied to glass, creating a range of high performance energy-saving and solar control glazing.

Pilkington K Glass™ S has reached a new milestone – NSG Group’s new coater at Cowley Hill has produced over two and a half million square metres. As the UK’s first jumbo off-line coating plant, Cowley Hill allows the NSG Group to manufacture a wider range of products in the UK. It enables ultra-thin special coatings to be applied to glass, creating a range of high performance energy-saving and solar control glazing.
Pilkington K Glass™ has long been the leading choice in low-emissivity glazing, ensuring consumers save energy and money off their fuel bills. Pilkington K Glass™ S was launched in October 2011 and customers now benefit from an extended range of energy-efficient glass solutions and can offer a soft-coated product to householders from Pilkington, the brand they know and trust.
Eric Falisi, Managing Director from Vetroseal Ltd., in Bedford, says: “Pilkington K Glass™ S is a super product to work with. The clarity is excellent and we find it more robust than other soft coat products we have experienced.”
In Ireland, Bill Carey, Managing Director, Carey Glass International, also comments: “Pilkington K Glass™ S is an excellent platform product for the Pilkington low-E glass range with great clarity, durability and reduced toughening cycle times. The recently launched Pilkington Optitherm™ S1 Plus glass retains the same processing benefits but with improved performance and the fact that it is a one stock product puts it streets ahead.
We and our customers are delighted with the dramatic increase in performances from old style hard coat products and very pleased with the technical support received from the UK based team.”
Pilkington K Glass™ S is a single stock coated glass which can be used in both annealed and toughened formats, with the added advantage of retaining the same thermal performance and neutral appearance. Once fabricated into an IGU, it can be used in all types of windows and in a variety of glazing applications from new build, to replacement windows in existing homes and conservatories. Pilkington K Glass™ S helps ensure windows exceed Part L 2010 Regulations and provides an enhanced solution for changes expected over the next three years. When combined with Pilkington Optiwhite™ in an insulating glass unit, it qualifies for Pilkington energiKare™ energy-efficient glazing and ensures a WER rating of A in all frame materials.
