Lisec: preparing for construction products regulation

The new regulations for EC certification and for the Declaration of Performance for construction products will come into effect from the 1 July 2013. With its GPS.qms, Lisec shows how to be prepared and reap extra benefits with IT-based quality management systems.

From 1 July 2013, a corresponding Declaration of Performance must be provided when construction products are sold, guaranteeing product-specific properties, such as the Ug value or light transmission of insulating glass. Supporting documents for the Declaration of Performance and EC certification must be kept for 10 years.
In order to comply with the Construction Products Regulation, it is important to provide thorough documentation covering the raw materials used, as well as the relevant manufacturing steps on which the guarantee of the product characteristics are based. In the case of an insulating glass manufacturer, this means that all materials – glass, spacer frames, molecular sieves etc. – must be thoroughly documented as soon as the goods are received.
On top of this, a company must be able to prove that the materials necessary for the characteristics of every product have actually been used.
In the day-to-day manufacturing process, the quantity of data necessary for this documentation can only be managed with efficient computer systems. GPS.qms offers the Declaration of Performance at the click of a button: it pulls together all the data from the different manufacturing areas, such as development, purchasing, manufacture and sales.
The prime benefit of GPS.qms is the administrative task of the Declaration of Performance. This is defined in line with your requirements and is stored with the individual products in the system. The Declaration of Performance can be automatically generated and dispatched for your customers. The EC label for a particular item, which must cross-reference with the Declaration of Performance, is also generated automatically. During manufacture, the GPS.qms documents the individual manufacturing steps for all connected machines. This provides the proof that the correct raw materials and production steps have been used during manufacture.
GPS.qms also allows to pinpoint potential areas for quality improvement: customer complaints or internal rejects can be traced across the manufacturing process, with the objective of identifying the causes and continually improving quality with appropriate measures.
