During the recent AAMA National Fall Conference, work continued on the drafting of product category rules for windows; while the joint task group made up of AAMA, GANA, IGMA and WDMA, is presently reviewing the eighth draft of the PCR.
The glass and glazing industry took one step closer to developing product category rules for windows during the recently-held American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) National Fall Conference.
Product category rules (PCR) serve as the basis for environmental product declarations – also known as eco-labels – which disclose the life cycle environmental performance of a product. These labels will become increasingly important as green building codes start requiring life cycle assessment (LCA): a measure of the total energy impact of a product (or building) throughout its life. In current green building codes, however, life cycle assessment is optional, but, according to industry experts, could be mandatory in the next revision cycle.
AAMA is working with the Glass Association of North America (GANA), Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA), and Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) to draft product category rules for windows; and the joint task group is presently reviewing the eighth draft of the PCR.
