International Festival of Glass 2012

The 2012 edition of the International Festival of Glass, to take place in the Stourbridge Glass Quarter, West Midlands, UK, 24-27 August, will include studios, glass fairs, exhibitions, workshops, talks and demonstrations and performances, as well as a number of dramatic and exciting evening events.

The International Festival of Glass 2012 will take place from Friday 24 – Monday 27 August, in the Stourbridge Glass Quarter, West Midlands. Across the four days there will be open studios, glass fairs, exhibitions, workshops, talks and demonstrations and performances, as well as a number of dramatic and exciting evening events.
In the run-up to the festival, the Masterclass Programme is taking place, which includes a diverse range of techniques for both experienced glassmakers and novices, including furnace building, marble making, hot glass casting, glassblowing at all levels, fusing, pate de verre, waterjet cutting, CAD in glassmaking and kinetic flameworking.
The line up of masterclass leaders includes: US studio glass pioneers Richard Marquis and Fritz Dreisbach. Stourbridge based artist Allister Malcolm, popular US jewellery designer Tanya Veit and celebrated Scottish artist Alison Kinnaird. They are joined by Ian Hankey, Vanessa Cutler, John Lewis, Bandhu Scott Dunham, Shelley Doolan, Diane East and Sean Taylor and French artist Antoine Leperlier, each bringing their own areas of expertise.
A total of 12 master classes will be taking place from 20-23 August. The courses are from 1.5 – 3.5 days and cost between GBP 185 – GBP 420 (incl. VAT).
Glass Afloat is a temporary floating sculpture exhibition to be held at Bodenham Arboretum, near Kidderminster, Worcestershire, as part of the International Festival of Glass.
The exhibition, which is a first for Bodenham is taking place from 1-27 August 2012. Artists are invited to apply to take part in this exhibition to have their sculpted glass creations floating on the 3.5 acre, 22 ft. deep lake at the epicentre of the arboretum.
