Italy: floating solar panels

Photovoltaic panels float on the surface of lake Colignola, in a village near Pisa, maximizing solar capture, thus being more efficient than a traditional installation.

An Italian engineer has invented and built a cost-effective prototype photovoltaic floating plant, which tracks the sun, and which is the first platform of its kind in the world. The photovoltaic panels were made to float on the surface of lake Colignola, in a village near Pisa, 11 January. While the water keeps the panels at low temperatures, reflectors are positioned to maximize solar capture at different times of day, making it more efficient than a traditional installation.
