Inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List will protect the age-old craft tradition of competition from cheap products from China.
Since the 18th century, Venetian glass masters have been working in their own shops to make vases, lamps, glasses and bowls, which are works of art and are on show in many museums.
The island of Murano has 306 companies, which employ about 2,000 people.
