Employees at PPG Industries’ Chester fiber glass manufacturing plant helped to obtain USD 39,407 in grants to date in 2011 through the PPG Industries Foundation for public schools where they have an interest. The foundation approved 38 requests from 19 PPG Chester employees through its Public Education Leadership Community (PELC) grant employee programme.
The PELC grants, of up to USD 1,000 each, funded school projects, materials and activities at the following schools in the Chester area:

•    Chester Park Elementary School
•    Chester Park School of the Arts
•    Children’s Attention Home Charter School

Any PPG employee may sponsor up to three PELC grant requests annually, to support projects meeting program requirements at public schools where they are involved. Grants obtained through PPG Chester employees to date in 2011 supported local schools with field trips, assemblies, Junior Achievement activities, arts education efforts, special-needs enrichment materials, and other educational initiatives.
“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Al Reid, PPG Chester plant manager and sponsor of three grants that benefited The Children’s School at Sylvia Circle this year. Reid received a 2011 Outstanding Business Partnership Award for exceptional contributions to The Children’s School at Sylvia Circle from Principal Dr. Sandra Lindsay-Brown (left in the photo) and Rock Hill Schools Superintendent Lynn P. Moody.
“We are proud that our employees participate in the PPG Industries Foundation’s PELC programme to actively assist the public schools where their children learn, their neighbours teach, and their communities develop. It is an honour to enable educators to transform their ideas into real classroom activities with help from PPG funding.”
Established in 1951, the PPG Industries Foundation demonstrates the values of PPG Industries by enhancing the quality of life in communities where the company has a presence. Interests of the foundation, in order of priority, are education, human services, culture and arts, and civic and community affairs. PPG also supports charitable causes by encouraging employees’ volunteerism and board service with non-profit organizations.
