Employees at PPG Industries’ Chester fiber glass manufacturing plant have helped to obtain USD 39,407 in grants for public schools. PPG Foundation approved 38 requests from 19 PPG Chester employees through its Public Education Leadership Community (PELC) grant employee programme.
Employees at PPG Industries’ Chester fiber glass manufacturing plant helped to obtain USD 39,407 in grants to date in 2011 through the PPG Industries Foundation for public schools where they have an interest. The foundation approved 38 requests from 19 PPG Chester employees through its Public Education Leadership Community (PELC) grant employee programme.
The PELC grants, of up to USD 1,000 each, funded school projects, materials and activities at the following schools in the Chester area:
• Academy for Teaching and Learning
• Chester High School
• Chester Middle School
• Chester Park Center of Literacy Through Technology
• Chester Park Elementary School
• Chester Park School of the Arts
• Children’s Attention Home Charter School
• The Children’s School at Sylvia Circle
• Ebenezer Avenue Elementary School
• Ebinport Elementary School
• Gold Hill Elementary School
• Great Falls Elementary School
• Indian Land Elementary School
• Jefferson Elementary School
• Lewisville Elementary School
• Lewisville Middle School
• Lockhart School
• Oakdale Elementary School
• Old Pointe Elementary School
• Riverview Elementary School
• Sugar Creek Elementary School
• York Intermediate School
Any PPG employee may sponsor up to three PELC grant requests annually, to support projects meeting program requirements at public schools where they are involved. Grants obtained through PPG Chester employees to date in 2011 supported local schools with field trips, assemblies, Junior Achievement activities, arts education efforts, special-needs enrichment materials, and other educational initiatives.

Reid received a 2011 Outstanding Business Partnership Award for exceptional contributions to The Children’s School at Sylvia Circle from Principal Dr. Sandra Lindsay-Brown (left in the photo) and Rock Hill Schools Superintendent Lynn P. Moody.
