Leading global manufacturer of building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, Owens Corning, has been named a Silver Class Sustainability Leader and a Sector Mover in The Sustainability Yearbook 2011 published by Sustainable Asset Management (SAM). In September 2010, Owens Corning was added to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for its industry-leading sustainability initiatives based on analysis conducted by SAM. The DJSI World Index is a highly recognized sustainability index comprised of leading sustainable companies around the world. Inclusion on this list means that the company is among the top 10% of the largest 2,500 companies worldwide based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria. Each year SAM then puts together The Sustainability Yearbook, a reference guide to the world“s sustainability leaders. Only the top-scoring 15% of the companies in each of the 58 sectors assessed are eligible for the yearbook. SAM awards the Sector Mover title to the company that achieved the biggest proportional improvement in its sustainability performance compared with last year. In addition, companies are classified into three categories gold, silver and bronze. “It is a great honour to be recognized for improving sustainability performance year over year,” said chief sustainability officer Frank O“Brien-Bernini. “In just one year, Owens Corning moved from unlisted on the DJSI to achieving a silver level, and being named a Sector Mover by SAM in 2010. We continue to pursue our objectives to advance the company further as a leader in sustainability.”
