Green Mountain Glass, whose Huntsville plant went into production, is, according to John Baker, the company“s vice-president for sales, looking for an area to set up a glass recycling plant in Birmingham. The company wants to take advantage of the large volume of glass in the metro area that presently goes to landfill. Green Mountain collects glass from Huntsville restaurants, bars and community drop-off sites and reprocesses the glass into a variety of products, including garden paths or mixed into cement countertops, creating colourful and durable surfaces. Opening a Birmingham plant would help create a market for glass recycling, Baker said.
