Private-equity firm Graham Partners has entered the pharmaceutical equipment sector thanks to the acquisition of about 90% of SP Industries Inc. Graham bought the stake from a group of private-equity investors led by Riverlake Partners LLC, while SP“s management retained its stake in the company. SP has two business segments: Research and Process Equipment – laboratory research applications and pharmaceutical production freeze dryers; and Research Glass – laboratory glassware and equipment, precision glass components, and nuclear magnetic resonance tubing. Graham Partners will use SP as a platform company, and will proceed with buying other companies and making them part of SP.
