LCD maker Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Compal Electronics, a manufacturer of notebooks, announced in mid-February that they have established a China-based joint venture to process glass for touch panels. The new company – Hwallar Optoelectronics – will be located in CPT“s production base in Fuzhou, southeastern China. Compal will have a 19% stake in Hwallar with a USD 570,000 investment through its wholly-owned subsidiary HengHao Technology – a manufacturer of projected capacitive touch panels, while CPT will have 51%, and the remaining 30% will be held by the management team of the joint venture.
