To take place 15-19 May, GOMD 2011 features symposia on Glass Science, Amorphous State, Optical Materials & Devices and Glass Technology. Sessions headed by technical leaders from industry, government laboratories and academia will cover the latest advances in glass science and technology, as well as a focused examination of the amorphous state. The poster session will highlight late-breaking research and the annual student poster contest. Open sessions will also be organized for each of the symposia. GOMD 2011 is designed for those who are involved or interested in the scientific research and development, application, and manufacturing of all glass types, including fiber optics, encapsulation of nuclear and hazardous wastes in glasses, interaction of glass and ceramics in medicine and biotechnology, super high-strength glasses, and countless other applications. Over 260 presentations and posters will highlight topics from non-silicate glass, water dynamics and optical ceramics to sol-gel coatings, glass corrosion and solar energy. The poster session will highlight late-breaking research and the annual student poster contest. The event will also include a short course entitled Fundamentals of Glass Science and Technology on 14-15 May, hosted by Arun K. Varshneya. Professional engineers and scientists whose basic training is in other disciplines; administrators seeking a general glass science knowledge; and students who wish to expand their field of expertise are ideally suited to attend. The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council is co-locating its symposium Glass Recycling in America on 19 May, which will bring all stakeholders together for the common purpose of understanding how to achieve a more robust and successful recycling of glass in America.
