The City of Albuquerque has been awarded a USD 500,000 grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to transform methane gas from the Cerro Colorado landfill into energy to power a glass recycling facility. Part of the gas will be used to fire a new kiln at a glass recycling facility, and the rest used for heating and hot water boilers at the county jail. Albuquerque is one of 25 US municipalities receiving a total of USD 10 million for projects to reduce greenhouse gases.
