Asahi Glass“ CFO Takashi Fujino has announced that improved new-car sales will bring its glass business its first operating profit in two years in the current year. Glass, which is one of the company“s main operating sectors, along with the electronics and display business, expects to post an operating profit of JPY 5-10 billion (USD 56.4 million to USD 112.8 million) for the year, a sharp improvement compared to fiscal year 2009“s operating loss of JPY 35 billion. Shipments of construction glass are still weak, but the gradual price increases in Europe in 2009 are expected to improve profits in 2010. And in automotive glass, “we anticipate only a minor impact from Toyota“s recall woes,” Fujino said.
