A formal appeal has been submitted by Quinn Glass against a local council order issued in April 2009 demanding it to demolish a multi-million euro glass container manufacturing factory in England, which was due to come into effect against the company at the end of May 2009. Quinn Glass is said to have appealed to the ministry of Communities and Local Government in an effort to have the order, which called for the factory to cease production within nine months and to be demolished within 18 months, repealed. The factory has been operating without proper planning permission since its opening in 2005 after being built at a cost of approximately GBP 300 million. Quinn Glass currently employs about 700 people.
