The Ukranian State Statistics Committee has announced that in February 2009, soda ash exports fell by 40.9% or 18,811 tons compared to February 2008, to 27,138 tons, when revenues from exports dropped 48.8% or USD 5.236 million to USD 5.490 million. In the January-February 2009 period, soda ash exports dropped 39.8% or 33,844 tons to 51,247 tons for USD 11.009 million (January-February 2008 by 85,091 tons for USD 19.516 million), compared to the January-February period of 2008. As previously reported, soda ash exports fell by 38.4% or 15,034 tons in January 2009 compared to January 2008, to 24,108 tons, when revenues from exports decreased by 37.2% or USD 3.271 million to USD 5.519 million. In February 2009, caustic soda (100%) production dropped 24% or 17,800 tons to 56,400 tons, compared to February 2008, and production of soda ash in January-February 2009, fell by 31.8% or 47,900 tons to 102,700 tons year-on-year. In 2008, production of caustic soda increased 4.3% or 40,000 tons, compared to 2007, to 977,800 tons. Also in 2008, soda ash exports decreased by 9.2% or 51,315 tons compared to 2007, to 504,381 tons for USD 131.293 million (555,696 tons for USD 93.484 million in 2007). The only producer of exported soda (A brand) in Ukraine is the Crimean Soda Plant (Krasnoperekopsk, Crimea).
