The Spanish branch of autoglass manufacturer Saint Gobain Sekurit based in L“Arbo, north-east Spain, introduced short-time working for 247 employees on 2 March 2009, after reaching agreement with the works committee, trade union sources said 27 February 2009. CCOO and CGT, the majority unions on the committee, accepted the new conditions for the short-time working starting 2 March and lasting until the end of June 2009. According to the submission to the Department of Labor, 247 workers from a total of 279 at the Saint-Gobain Sekurit division will not attend work on 34 days until late June at a rate of two days a week. Office workers at the factory will not work Mondays and Fridays and the rest of the staff concerned will stay off on Friday and Sunday, with Saturday a rest day. The agreement between the company and workers“ representatives allows 97 employees aged over 54 to continue working without being affected by the measure in order to avoid losing pension contributions, although they may volunteer for intermittent unemployment.
