Ukrainian soda ash exports down by 7.6% in August

Ukraine reported a decrease of soda ash exports by 13% or 6,218 tons in August compared to July. During the January-August 2008 period, soda ash exports saw a decrease of 3.3% or 11,854 tons compared to January-August 2007, to 347,858 tons for USD 89.416 million (359,712 tons for USD 58.279 million in January-August 2007). As reported, in July 2008, soda ash exports increased by 11.9% or 5,111 tons compared to July 2007, to 47,964 tons, when revenues from exports rose by 97% or USD 6.800 million to USD 13.810 million. The production of soda ash in August 2008 rose by 0.2% or by 200 tons as against August 2007 to 80,300 tons (100%, potash free). During the January-August 2008 period, soda ash production increased by 8.5% or 51,500 tons compared to January-August 2007, to 655,000 tons. Soda ash exports rose by 13.6% or 66,662 tons in 2007 compared to 2006, to 555,696 tons for USD 93.484 million (489,034 tons for USD 75.728 million in 2006). The Crimean soda plant (Krasnoperekopsk, Crimea) is the only producer of exported soda (A brand) in Ukraine.
