Minerals Technologies Inc. said management of its Synsil unit, which makes composite minerals for the glass industry, will be undertaken by chief financial officer John A. Sorel in addition to other duties. Sorel joined the company in 1973, and was named chief financial officer in 2002. Minerals Technologies“ processed minerals segment sales increased 5% in the 3Q 2006 as a result of increasing volume of Synsil product sales, but the unit“s new plant in South Carolina has created ramp-up and market development costs that continued to be challenging in the recent 3Q 2006, the company said.
