US-based refractory specialist Magneco/Metral recently announced the opening of a production facility in Tianjin, China, for its innovative nanoparticulate refractory technology serving the glass, aluminium, copper, ceramic, iron and steel industries. The 12,192 sq. m. (40,000 sq.ft.) plant has a production capacity of 2,000 tons per month of high performance, easily applied refractory for use in industrial furnace construction and repair. “This new, state-of-the-art plant will allow us to meet the demand for our Sol-Gel product line in South Korea, Taiwan and China,” said Charles Connors, Sr., president of the company. “As manufacturing continues to grow in these countries, the capability to supply materials in a timely manner will be the key to success in the region”. Magneco/Metral“s Sol-Gel refractory products include the Metpump family pumpable and shotcrete formulations of colloidal silica bonded refractory. Compared to low- or ultra-low cement bonded castables, Metpump products feature, says the company, superior hot strength, thermal shock and creep resistance properties; excellent erosion and abrasion resistance; high resistance to chemical attack; and increased mechanical strength.
