Pilkington Glass of Canada Ltd. has determined that some of the aftermarket windshields that it manufactured in 2005 and 2006 do not comply with certain US federal standards. However, as the defect regards the marking of the windshield with information including a manufacturer“s model number and code, Pilkington has petitioned the US authorities for an exemption from the notification and remedy requirements on the basis that the noncompliance is inconsequential to vehicle safety. The fault affects some 760 aftermarket windshields number GW1549GBY made between 9 September 2005 and 31 March 2006. The affected windshields are marked with either an illegible model number or an illegible manufacturer“s code, although they are clearly inscribed with “Pilkington” and “Made in Canada”. Pilkington has corrected the problem that caused the errors so that they will not be repeated in future production.
