Sekisui S-LEC America LLC has chosen a city just east of Lexington, Kentucky as the location for its auto glass film plant. The Japanese firm will build a USD 43 million plant in the Winchester Industrial Park that could eventually add 80 jobs, state officials said 23 January 2006. Osaka-based Sekisui already makes film for glass in Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, China and Thailand. The plant will be a supplier for vehicle plants in the Interstate 75 corridor. Commencing in autumn 2007, Sekisui officials said they expect the plant to produce about 6 million units a year. Ohio and Kentucky competed to host the plant. Both states offered Sekisui tax benefits, but Kentucky offered nearly USD 1 million more than Ohio, state officials said. Sekisui S-LEC America is a subsidiary of Sekisui Chemical Co. Ltd. Sekisui companies employ more than 17,000 worldwide.
