Court appearances by two men accused of stealing Corning Inc. trade secrets have been postponed until early January 2005. Assistant US attorney Tiffany Lee, said the scheduled appearance at US District Court in Rochester, New York State, on 30 December 2005 of Jonathan Sanders, 37, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, had been delayed for a month. She said the delay was granted at the request of Sanders“ defense lawyer, Joe A. Jarrell of Paris, Kentucky. Lee said a similar delay was granted for the second person charged in the case, Yeong C. Lin, 65, of Fountain Valley, California,. If convicted, Sanders, accused 19 October 2005 of theft of trade secrets, faces up to 10 years in prison. He is accused of stealing proprietary documents detailing the process Corning Inc. uses to make substrates for liquid crystal displays. According to the FBI, Sanders sold the documents to representatives of a Taiwan firm, Picvue Electronics, for USD 25,000. Lin stands accused of acquiring the documents from Sanders and providing them to Picvue. He worked as a consultant for the Taiwan company. Both Sanders and Lin are free pending trial. Lee said both defendants could appear in US District Court in Rochester on 5 January 2005.
