UK packaging group Rexam PLC is considering a bid of more than GPB 3 billion for Saint-Gobain“s container glass business, according to the UK“s Daily Telegraph. The French building materials giant may sell the division to help finance its recently agreed GBP 3.9 billion acquisition of UK plasterboard maker BPB, the newspaper added. Asked whether Rexam would be interested in acquiring the business, CEO Lars Emilson said he had no idea if Saint-Gobain were considering a sell off. However, he said if Rexam would not “shy away” from growing its glass business “if something major became available”. Emilson said Rexam is also interested in acquisitions that would boost its rapidly-growing plastics business. There was no comment from Saint-Gobain.
