The New Zealand Green Party is campaigning to save the glass milk bottle after Meadow Fresh Dairies confirmed plans on 22 November 2005 to scrap it. Previously, Environment Minister David Benson-Pope had signed a Green Party petition to save the bottle, which is only available in the South Island. The campaign was started by the late Green Party Co-Leader Rod Donald MP and is being continued by Green Party Spokesperson on Waste Nandor Tanczos MP. Mr. Tanczos said 22 November 2005 that the announcement flew in the face of overwhelming public support for glass milk bottles, and growing concern about New Zealand“s high volume of waste to landfill.
