Germany“s BASF AG has sold its decoration color business unit to W.C. Heraeus, a subsidiary of Heraeus Holding GmbH for an undisclosed price, the companies said 20 October 2005 in a joint statement. Financial details were not disclosed. The sale comprises the decoration color business for glassware, ceramics and porcelain. It does not include any BASF“s facilities or personnel. The acquisition of the BASF decoration color business has strengthened Heraeus“ position as one of the world“s leading manufacturers of high-quality decoration colors for ceramics and glassware and allowed its Ceramic Colors Division to continue on its growth course. The BASF decoration color business complements Heraeus“ existing color range with, for example, lead-free onglaze colors and a resistant onglaze color series. Heraeus will manufacture the acquired decoration color series at Heraeus Schauer in Vienna. BASF“s Sicocer(R) F stains for the floor-tile industry are not affected by the sale. The brand name Sicocer(R) remains with BASF. Precious-metal and technology company Heraeus is a market and technology leader in the fields of precious metals, dental materials, sensors, quartz glass and special light sources. With more than 9,800 employees in over 100 subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide, the company posted sales of EUR 8.3 billion in 2004.
