The Czech glass products and jewellery companies Ornela, Jablonex, Bizuterie Ceska Minco, Zeleznobrodske Sklo and Bohemian Jewelry merged as of 1 October 2005. The successor of the five companies, all based in the Jablonec nad Nisou district, is a new company, Jablonex Group. The merger was approved by shareholders of the five companies in mid-2005. Jablonex Group will have more than 3,500 employees and an annual turnover of about CZK 3.0 billion (USD 122.3 million/EUR 101.5 million). The company will export 98% of its production. According to Jablonex spokesman Petr Vondrich, the merger is a result of the consolidation process affecting the glass and jewellery industry in Jablonec nad Nisou district, northern Bohemia. All the merging companies are owned by glass maker Ornela.
