The UK“s Allied Glass Containers, a leading packaging group for the drinks and food sector, could soon be sold, according to a report in The Sunday Times. Accountancy firm Ernst & Young has been appointed by the company“s main backer, Close Brothers Private Equity, to conduct a strategic review that may lead to a sale for up to GBP 80 million, including debts. Close Brothers declined to comment, but one source close to the process said the review was in its early stages. Allied was formerly owned by food and retail conglomerate Associated British Foods plc. Close Brothers was behind a management buyout of Allied Glass Containers in December 2002.
