Canada“s Alcan Packaging has acquired Belgian pharmaceutical glass packaging manufacturer Veramic for an undisclosed sum, it was reported on 7 December 2004. Veramic, a division of UK pharmaceutical company Intercare Group, was set up in 1923, and is based in Liege, eastern Belgium. The company produces some 150 million ampoules and 60 million vials per annum and generates an average annual turnover of some EUR 5.0 million (USD 6.71 million). It employs 44. Veramic was acquired along with Belgian syringe manufacturer Federa SA by Intercare Group in 2001 for a total EUR 21.5 million (USD 28.86 million). Alcan Packaging is a subsidiary of Montreal-based aluminium company Alcan Inc. Alcan“s activities include bauxite mining, specialty chemicals, power generation and aluminium smelting. It has a total workforce of 88,000 and operates in 58 countries. The company posted revenue of USD 6.2 billion (EUR 4.7 billion) in 2003.
