The chairman of Asahi Glass Automotive, Ichiro Kohga, signed an agreement with Janos Bencsik, the mayor of Tatabanya in north west Hungary, on 10 November 2004 for the construction of a EUR 60 million factory. Mr Kohga said Asahi Glass had chosen the site because of its location, accessibility and good infrastructure. The plant, which will supply vehicle makers in Central and Eastern Europe, will start operations in 2006. Vehicle sales in the region are projected to increase from 2.4 million last year to 4.1 million by 2008. (HUF 100 = EUR 0.4081)
