Kor-Kap is a flat glass packaging system which, according to its US-based manufacturer Menasha Corp., is economical, reliable and easy to use. It was designed to make full use of the compressive strength of glass to support the package in transit. The system compresses the glass, making the pack tighter, which in turn means less glass breakage. Kor-Kap weighs roughly 45 kg, compared to 180 to 225 kg for typical steel racks and, due to its light weight, an extra pack of glass can be shipped for the same cost. In development for almost five years, the system includes four specially designed steel and plastic corner units that attach to the four corners of stacked flat glass panels. Menasha Corp. says that labour costs are also reduced compared to using a steel rack, because the Kor-Kap takes a third of the normal time to close – only five minutes. The corners and trays are reusable, so there are no costs for expensive dunnage. As well as being able to handle a range of glass sizes from 1.55 to 3.25 sq. m., Kor-Kap features four different lengths of adjustable corners to accomodate all cut glass sizes. The compact system comes complete with packing and unpacking stands, forklift handling trays, steel banding and banding tools, corner trays and tray return pallets. The nestable version is designed for stacked shipping, while the slingable version is for use with an overhead crane.
