The Turkish Glass Workers Union Kristal-Is said in a press statement that it went on strike against leading Turkish Glassmaker Sise-Cam Group on 24 May 2001. The strike involves 6,000 glass workers and is in effect also in Sise-Cam affiliated companies, including Pasabahce Cam, Trakya Cam and Anadolu Cam. The main grievances have to do with wages and subcontracting work. The employers want to decrease real wages but Kristal-Is has refused this offer. The strike has shut down 90% of glass production in Turkey.
