Central Slovakian glassmaker Slovglass Poltarhas reported year 2000 sales amounting to KC 743 million, a rise of 10% on the 1999 figure, and profits of Kc 30 million. Around 85% of sales come from exports, mainly to the United States and Britain. US sales alone exceeded Kc 284 million. Exports to the neighbouring Czech Republic generated Kc 40 million, or 7% of overall exports. Slovglass is currently installing a new Kc 215 million furnace, expected to create 140 new jobs and boost output by 35% when it enters operation later this year.
