The Danish brewer Carlsberg has reduced its majority stake in glassware and china group Royal Scandinavia, in line with plans to concentrate on the beverage sector. The deal, with a local investor group led by Axcel, a Danish industrial investment company, will earn Carlsberg around DK 1.7 billion and reduce the Copenhagen-based brewer“s holding from 64% to 28%. A new holding company, Royal Scandinavia Holding, which will be 51%-owned by Axcel, will make a general purchase offer and then delist the company from the Copenhagen stock exchange. Royal Scandinavia brands include Orrefors and Kosta Boda, two of Sweden“s best-known makers of quality glassware.
