The sixteenth edition of the Glasstec fair in Dsseldorf (Germany) ended on October 28, 2000. Most of the 1,024 exhibitors from 41 different countries declared themselves extremely satisfied, seeing the propension of visitors to invest. The 52,000 visitors coming from 74 different countries were 16% more than at the previous edition of the fair in 1998. They gathered information on machinery, equipment, applications and products related to glass. 46% of the visitors claimed their interest was mainly focalized on the working and transformation of glass, and 38% gathered information on machinery and plants for the glass industry, whilst a third of the operators pointed their interest on production and production techniques, and on glass products and their applications. As in the previous editions, visitors and exhibitors concentrated around the 4,000 m2-exhibition of Glass Technology Live, regarding the possibilities of glass applications also in solar technology and LCD solutions. 97% of the visitors and exhibitors were extremely positive about Glasstec 2000 and are expecting lively business in the near future as a consequence of the fair. The sector of glass machinery and plants of the VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau) and the German glass industry organized in the Bundesverband Glasindustrie und Mineralfaserindustrie, both sponsors of the Glasstec fair, were satisfied with the event and are now expecting good results. The Bundesverband Glasindustrie und Mineralfaserindustrie had substantial demand for flat glass and special glass products, innovative solutions, and the application of glass in interior fittings. Stefan Kieckhfel, head manager of the third association sponsoring the fair, the Bundesinnungsverband des Glaserhandwerks (BIV), expressed his satisfaction with Glasstec 2000 in saying that “handicraft has proved itself a qualified partner to modern technologies, such as photovoltaic energy, both on a national and international level”.
