PT Asahimas Flat Glass, an Indonesian glassmaker, said it posted a loss of Rp 7.4 billion during the first quarter of the year, compared with a Rp 72.43 billion loss in the year-ago period. Asahimas said sales during the period rose 32% to Rp 229.43 billion from Rp 172.15 billion. Sales of high quality and specialty glass for cars accounted for 55% of total sales, it said. The company said although the weak rupiah boosted the its revenue, it also resulted in Rp 51.13 billion in foreign exchange losses. Asahimas produces around 570,000 tons of flat glass, 2.2 million square metres of safety glass and 1.2 million square metres of glass for mirrors annually. The company is a joint venture between Japan“s Asahi Glass Co. and Indonesia PT Rodamas Indonesia.
