Tosoh Corp. is looking at options for expanding PVC capacity of its joint venture in the Philippines. According to a recent report, demand in the Philippines is growing at over 10% per year. The joint venture with Philippine Resin Industries (PRII) in Bataan is operating at full capacity of 70,000 tonnes per year. Two options are being considered: improvements to current facilities could lift capacity by 30,000 tonnes per year, or new lines could add around 70,000 tonnes per year. Asian PVC demand is expected to rise 6% per year over the next 5 years. Total output in the Philippines is 178,000 tonnes per year. Meanwhile, Tosoh Quartz Group is to acquire Nippon Silica Glass Co. Ltd. as a fully owned subsidiary when it takes over the remaining 12.827% of NSG shares in Apr. :NSG makes silica glass materials and had sales of US$ 51.2 million in the year ending 31 March 1999.
