Apogee Enterprises, Inc. has provided details on windows custom-engineered for the Seaport Hotel and Conference Center by the Wausau Group, a unit of the Glass Technologies business segment. The 427-room luxury hotel is located across the street from the Boston World Trade Center on the edge of the harbor, and is the first new hotel in Boston in 13 years. Since the hotel sits directly under the flight path of Boston“s Logan International Airport, the project called for Wausau to meet some of the most challenging acoustical and aesthetic standards ever devised for the industry. Wausau worked closely with architects, building owners, contractors and acoustical consultants to custom-engineer a solution. After nearly 60 different tests, Wausau produced a 6-inch-thick, 800-pound window unit that is at least five times more soundproof than the average commercial window. “Once again, Wausau proved that it is truly one of the nation“s premier producers of custom-engineered window and wall systems,” said Russell Huffer, Apogee“s President and Chief Executive Officer. “With its superior engineering, Wausau has been tapped to design the window and wall systems of several buildings now under construction in the area surrounding the Seaport Hotel.”
