US-based Flatware manufacturer Oneida Ltd. said it settled pending litigation with its former suitor Libbey Inc., a Toledo, Ohio-based glass tableware maker. The company said terms of the settlement are confidential. An Oneida spokesperson, Dave Gymburch, said the settlement involved two lawsuits. In April 1999, Oneida filed suit against Libbey Inc., alleging its distribution programme was anticompetitive. In August 1998, Libbey filed suit against Oneida concerning certain glassware that Oneida was introducing. In July, Libbey had dropped a US$ 625 million unsolicited bid to buy Oneida Ltd. after its advances were repeatedly rejected.
