8 July 1999: Lithuania“s Panevezio Stiklas (Panevezys Glass) said it plans to launch a new glass container production line, in an effort to recover lost positions on the local market and boost exports. Panevezys Glass“ technical and production director Algis Bakonis said the company plans to start operation of the automatic glass container production equipment, which is currently being installed by Polish and German specialists. The Polish bottle producer Warta, which bought Panevezys Glass last autumn, has put 10 million litas (US$ 2.5 million) into the new technology. According to a report, the new owner has pledged to invest a total of 24 million litas within five years, and to repay the Lithuanian factory“s debt of some 117 million litas over ten years. The new advanced technology is expected to widen the range of glass containers produced in Panevezys to some 150 models from the current ten. Panevezys Glass said it plans to export new bottles and jars to Russia“s Kaliningrad region, Kazakhstan and other countries.
