10 June 1999: South Africa“s Africa Glass Industries Ltd. said that it plans to debut on the Johannesburg bourse by the end of this month, with a market value of around 400 million rand (US$ 64.9 million). In a recent company statement, the 19-year-old glass manufacturer, retailer and distributor announced its plans to raise an as yet unnamed amount of capital, using the money to retire debt, increase its capital base and fund expansion in Europe and North America. Africa Glass, which employs 700 people, has 35 operations throughout southern Africa as well as in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. It exports glass products to 40 countries.
