22 April 1999: Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) has downgraded shares in Germany“s Gerresheimer Glas to “market performer” from “outperformer”, according to a recent press report. The main reason for this is the failed merger of Viag and Alusuisse, the report said. Had this come to fruition it would have benefited the glass specialist, which is 51%-owned by Viag together with Bayernwerk, it added. Demand in the German container glass industry has also remained behind the analysts“ expectations in the first two months of the current financial year.
